San Antonio is known for being a vibrant city, but when the NCAA Final Four comes to town, it transforms into a sports fan’s paradise. From the electric atmosphere at the Alamodome to the lively celebrations along the River Walk, there’s no shortage of excitement. But between games, you’ll need to refuel, and luckily, San Antonio’s food scene is just as thrilling as the action on the court.
If you’re looking for great food within walking distance of the Alamodome, you’re in luck—there are plenty of fantastic spots nearby. Just a short stroll away, Reese Bros. Barbecue serves up some of the best smoked meats in Texas, with tender brisket, juicy ribs, and flavorful poblano mac & cheese. Family-friendly Cherrity Bar can be found a literal stone’s throw from the Dome, at the corner of Montana and Cherry Streets. This indoor-outdoor hangout serves up beer, wine, and mixed drinks as well as Japanese bites, with profits going to charities.Â
For a quick caffeine jolt, Estate Coffee Co. is the place to be. The quaint coffee shop’s menu offers tried-and-true favorites such as espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes, as well as unexpected specialty drinks, including a Coffee Old Fashioned and a Honey Lavender Latte. Located less than a mile from the Dome, Sweet Yams is a must for veggie-based visitors. Sweet Yams has been serving up organic, gluten-free, vegetarian and even vegan eats on the city’s East Side since 2012, but don’t let the veggie-heavy menu fool you. These dishes can also be topped with chicken, shrimp or salmon.
Just beyond the Alamodome, a short drive or rideshare trip away, you’ll find even more incredible dining options in some of San Antonio’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The Historic Pearl District, Southtown Arts District, and famed River Walk are all must-visit areas, known for lively atmosphere and standout eateries. Exploring these surrounding neighborhoods not only guarantees great food but also gives you a taste of the city’s culture, from historic architecture to vibrant street art.
Whether you're here for the hoops or the hospitality, venturing beyond the arena will make your San Antonio experience even more memorable.
